Turmeric lattes, chai, paninis, cookies, salads, and... 5 types of breakfast sandwiches! (which should be expected by now)

Monday - Friday: 7am - 6pm

Saturday - Sunday: 8am - 5pm

In late February, me, my friend Julia, and our moms went to Koffi for lunch before a fitness session in Fernwood.

Atmosphere + Service:

Walking into Koffi, we were greeted with a bright orange theme/aesthetic, cool lights (the ones from ikea that I always wanted), tons of natural lighting from big windows, and lots of posters and flyers supporting local art projects, theatre productions, bands, protests, and events. It was an extremely warm and friendly atmosphere, and a place to connect and learn more about the community. The staff were super friendly, answering my many questions and not looking too annoyed.

Flexibility:

Koffi had almond milk and soy milk available for drink subsitutions, although they did cost extra, and although most of the treats weren't homemade, they were supplied from local businesses (Simply Sweet) and had options that were:

  • gluten free

  • vegan

  • gluten free + vegan

  • vegetarian

ham breakfast sandwich!

Affordability:

  • chai latte with soy milk - $4.85

  • herbal tea - $2

  • caramel latte - $4.75

  • breakfast sandwich with ham - $4

  • breakfast sandwich with turkey - $4

  • feature mango chutney panini - $7.5

  • vegan cookie - $3

Wait, Food Presentation, + Food Quality:

Our drinks came almost immediately, and our food wasn't far behind. The espresso drinks had cool latte art, and the chai had just the right amount of foam (all hot drinks were served in the same simple white mug). The caramel latte was a great balance of coffee and caramel flavour, wasn't too bitter or too sweet, the chai was delicious (you could tell it wasn't made with the Tazo mix), and the herbal tea was very relaxing. Both of the breakfast sandwiches were so tasty! Next time (and there will be a next time) I would definitely try the capicolli or veggie version. The mango chutney panini isn't something I would normally choose, but it was to die for! The paninis are made at Koffi, and the pear, spinach, and chutney combination was delicious!

"This caramel latte is so good it could get me through math. And that's saying a lot." - Julia
